Glazing at Mountain Pottery
Glazing Classes– We offer a variety of beautiful and colorful glazes at Mountain Pottery. If you would like to glaze your own work you can a take a class in which you will learn glazing techniques- these classes are focused on surface decoration using brushes and sponges. Classes are a maximum of 1.5 hours and include materials and the second firing of the work.
Have Your Work Glazed For You– For as little as $0.10 per square inch of your work we will glaze your work for you! All you have to do is choose the glaze and we’ll do the rest. This is a great option for visitors and students who aren’t able to return to finish their work. Limit one color per piece. If you aren’t able to pick your work up after the 2nd firing, we also offer shipping. (See shipping section at bottom of this page for more info)
The Clay Process
At Mountain Pottery all of our work, weather its hand-built or wheel thrown, goes through a two part process.
- Make the form out of soft clay- by hand-building or using a wheel
- Let the piece dry completely to ‘bone dry’ -brittle state (1-2 weeks depending thickness)
- Bisque fire the form in our electric kiln (the 1st firing gets to 1800 degrees F)
- Glaze the form
- Glaze fire the piece in the same electric kiln (2nd firing gets to 2200 degrees F)
Now its done! Take your work home and enjoy it!
